Characteristics of team

We are proud to state that our car is completely hand built by students. The multi-disciplinary team from mechanical- , electric , - electronic ,- computer- , chemical- and industrial engineering all worked together to design sub-systems and build the car.

Team's "ambitions"
for this year's BWSC

The NWU solar team's ambition this year is to show that our design and manufacturing skills are up to the stringent reliability and energy efficiency requirements of the 2017 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge. We aim to be recognised as an internationally competitive team representing the best that engineering faculties offer in South Africa. A position well within the top ten finishers would make us proud!

Bridgestone South Africa marketing and field engineering team assisted several teams from around the world in the launching of 2016 Sasol Solar Challenge in South Africa on September 24th 2016. We have used this experience in supporting the NWU in communications and field engineering expertise. We look forward to the NWU team performing well in the BWSC.

As South Africans we may not have the access to the funds of highly developed countries but that does not limit our minds and our ability to be pioneers. From the first human transplant to missile tracking we are capable of driving giant leaps in innovation, fly the Mzansi flag high. From everyone at Bridgestone South Africa good luck! NWU! team!
